The Importance of Gen Ed classes

As I reflect over all of my General Education classes I quickly realize how important they were in shaping the person I am today. Each class was a stepping stone in a new direction and honestly sometimes it was the thorn in my side. However, after you get through it you realize how much you learned and how much the experiences that others discuss if often times the medicine you need to survive.
While sitting in Dobson's Art History class it was clear to me that he was all about teaching us how to become more independent of the thought of "homework" but the idea of wanting to "learn"....I know that sounds completely ridiculous but so many times as students we feel like everything is busy work...well that is not true.

Tieing everything together...from gen ed classes that helped to make me a more well-rounded student to my major classes that brought out my passion and what inspires me my experience and time at AI has only gotten better. I would not be who I am today without Ai.

  1. You raise a great point about the difference between wanting to get homework done and wanting to learn from doing the homework. As we've looked at in class, the latter is a higher order of thinking (aka Bloom's Taxonomy). It moves beyond just knowing or being able to explain the information to being able to use it to solve problems, create, and evaluate. Learning can be a very creative activity!

  2. I love the point you made about straying from the thought of homework but wanting to learn! Great job, Katie!
